根据2015年全国338个地级以上城市开展的空气质量新标准监测，结果显示，338个城市空气质量达标天数比例在19.2%～100%之间，平均为76.7%；平均超标天数比例为23.3%，其中轻度污染天数比例为15.9%，中度污染为4.2%，重度污染为2.5%，严重污染为0.7%。在这些城市中，去年全年空气质量达标天数达到100%的只有马尔康、丽江、香格里拉、塔城、阿里和林芝6个城市。

无一例外，这6个城市中没有一个城市属于全国一线或者二线城市，甚至连三线城市都达不到，但也正因如此，才造就了这些地方良好的空气质量。北京公众环境研究中心主任马军表示，这些地区基本上都是地广人稀，没有大量工业排放，没有很多工业的特点是比较突出的，有些在林区，靠近雪山，生态条件比较好，可以说是世外桃源一样的存在。

和一二线城市主要发展工业和电子信息产业不同，这些地方大多以旅游业为主，人口密度较低，同时保持着青山绿水，因此也没有严重的汽车尾气排放等问题，但不代表这些地方经济条件非常差。以丽江市为例，根据《丽江市2004~2020旅游业发展的远景规划》，到2020年，丽江旅游总收入比2010年翻一番，达到160亿元人民币，占全市国民生产总值的60%。可见，旅游业也可以为当地人民带来不小的财富。

不过所谓大城市病正是经济发展带来的负面效应，对于全国一二线城市而言，或许不需要也不能抛弃工业等其他产业而去专注旅游业，但如何有效解决空气污染的问题，确实需要借鉴“绿水青山也能变成金山银山”这样的思路。
