消息称，美的2014年销售额换算成日元达到约2.7万亿日元，据英国调查公司欧睿信息咨询统计显示，美的白色家电整体2015年的全球市场份额为4.6％，排在第2位，而白色家电业务曾经作为东芝稳定的业务，在印度尼西亚等海外生产大部分产品，由于日元贬值的影响，盈利出现恶化。以白色家电为中心的东芝家电业务2014年度销售额约为2200亿日元，预计出现亏损。美的的此次收购东芝白色家电业务后将在东芝具有优势的日本和东南亚获得扩大白色家电销路的立足点，加快推进全球战略。

这已经不是第一次日本企业向中国家电企业出售自家家电业务，在2012年，松下就将自家旗下三洋电机的白色家电业务出售给另外一家中国家电巨头海尔，在此次收购之前，东芝在本月初向佳能授予了医疗设备部门的独家收购谈判权，据悉，佳能提供的报价超过60亿美元。
