从小，宁子岳就特别喜欢看科幻电影，《钢铁侠》更是他的最爱。他脑袋里总是充满奇思妙想，妈妈在医院工作，医院进行控烟活动，小子岳就想，可以发明一个控烟机器人，给机器人安上一个热感相机，设定温度200摄氏度，超过这个温度机器人就能感应到热源并且准确赶到，然后对着烟头喷水。可是这个想法因为技术含量过高，没能实现。

发出申请后没多久，国际专利和国家专利的通知书都到了子岳的手上。据国家专利局的工作人员说，麻省理工学院一位教授也发明了类似装置，申请专利时发现中国的一名小学生已经捷足先登了，只得作罢。

4月15日晚上，湖南省首届文化创意设计大赛颁奖典礼上，受湖南省科协的邀请，宁子岳作为嘉宾发言，他代表的是湖南省年青一代的创新人才。
