据国土资源部中国地质调查局官网披露，世界著名勘查地球化学家、中国勘查地球化学技术的创始人和学科领袖、中国地质调查局中国地质科学院物化探所名誉所长、中科院院士谢学锦于2017年2月24日逝世，享年94岁。

公开简历显示，谢学锦1923年5月21日生于北京，1947年毕业于重庆大学化学系，1980年当选为中国科学院学部委员（院士）。

谢学锦的父亲是著名矿床学大师、中国外知名的石油地质学家和经济地质学家谢家荣，母亲吴镜侬早年毕业于北京女子师范大学，擅长绘画和音乐。

在谢家荣先生指导下，谢学锦开创和奠基了中国勘查地球化学事业。

1978年，谢学锦提出“区域化探中国扫面计划”，并一直指导该计划的进行，迄今完成了中国700多万平方千米的扫面工作，据此共发现各类矿产地近2000处，使金的找矿发生了革命性的变化，并提出了地球化学块体理论，制定了“迅速掌握全局，逐步缩小靶区”的全新找矿战略。

1987年，谢学锦与国外勘查地球化学家一起倡议全球地球化学填图，后担任国际地球化学填图指导委员会委员、分析技术委员会主席，不断推进全球地球化学填图。

2002年，谢学锦获何梁何利基金科学与技术进步奖，2007年获国际应用地球化学家协会金质奖章。

谢学锦的代表作有《区域化探》、《地球化学块体——概念和方法学的发展》、《全球地球化学填图》、《深穿透地球化学新进展》等。
