彼得堡警方当天清晨3时许联系了死者所在约克区警局。经约克区警局查询，失事飞机机主来自当地纽马克特镇，飞机为私人飞机。警方与飞机机主取得了联系，确认该飞机被偷。而窃贼是来自当地万锦市的一名21岁男子。警方没有公布死者的姓名。
