肯尼亚电力公司发布声明，指停电因为一只猴子爬上Gitaru发电厂屋顶后，被困在变压器裡，造成电厂其他机组过载，导致电厂发电降载180MW，引发全国性停电，系统重启后恢复正常。电力公司还指出，公司设有围栏保护来阻止野生动物靠近和破坏电厂。这次只是一次偶然事件。

据悉，这只猴子虽然闯了大祸，自身却没受多大伤害，目前猴子已经被交给肯尼亚当地的野生动物保护机构。
