中国人民公安大学教授张惠芹向重案组37号（微信ID：zhonganzu37）探员说道，自己接受了雷洋家属委托，经检察院审批，担任专家证人。5月13日凌晨，自己从内蒙古海拉尔赶回北京，见证雷洋尸检全过程。
她回忆，此次尸检共持续了约十余个小时，从5月13日下午2时开始，一直到14日凌晨2时左右结束，全程由北京市检察院、法医专家等全程观看，相关尸检机构和专家证人均签署了相关的告知承诺书，承诺对工作和做出的结论负责。
尸检前，雷洋家属曾提出看望遗体的要求，得到了北京市检察院的同意，由于亲属比较多，检察院方面安排家属分成两批告别遗体。“家属看完遗体以后，爸爸妈妈出来就跪下了，抱着我哭，我说要相信我。”张惠芹说，雷洋家属在此间情绪激动，“既然家属信任我，我还是那句之前说过的话，不负众望，不辱使命，对得起自己的良心，法医的良心。”
据介绍，此次北京明正司法鉴定中心共派出了十余名法医专家团队，负责雷洋的尸体解剖工作。
雷洋尸检结果约半月后得出
张惠芹说，从13日下午2时开始，负责尸检的工作人员先对雷洋的尸体进行了包括CT和X光在内的影像学检查，此后将遗体推进了解剖室，下午5时以后才开始进行体表检查和解剖，“看得非常细，每根头发都要拨开看。”
她说，目前由于只能用肉眼宏观观察，尚不能判断雷洋的死亡原因，后续将对雷洋的脏器进行病理检验和毒化检验，尸检方需要用排除法来得出雷洋的死亡原因，大约半个月到20天将会有尸检结果。
