  对于这种说法,蒙内铁路项目的工作人员对《环球时报》记者说,因其本身标准的限制,根据现有技术,米轨扩能后年运输能力基本不会超过450万吨,绝无可能使得肯尼亚运量达到6亿吨,无法满足蒙巴萨港运输需求的增长。而新建标准轨蒙内铁路远景设计年运输能力可达2500万吨,并预留双线电气化改造条件。而且从动物保护的角度,野生动物可以在大多数区域随意穿行米轨,直接造成动物死亡的事故不胜枚举。蒙内铁路则全线采用全封闭式防护栅栏。


  从《国家地理》的报道中可以看出肯尼亚官方的态度:肯尼亚总统认为这条铁路对国家经济发展是十分必要的,从长远来看最终可减少成本。毗邻的西察沃国家公园和东察沃国家公园的副主管罗伯特·欧布林说,公园中的动物会慢慢适应新建的铁路。
