该山寨狮身人面像亮相石家庄时引起埃及文物部门高度关注，由于施工单位未获得埃及方面许可建造复制品，遭到埃及文物部门向联合国教科文组织投诉。
依照1972年联合国教科文组织对世界文化和自然遗产保护公约，作为缔约国的中国大陆，高仿的狮身人面像已经触犯了国际公约，埃及方面也已向联合国教科文组织进行投诉。
