Studies show that indulged in social networks are more susceptible to depression-social networking, depression-IT information

According to a recent study found that young people spend more time on social media, is more likely to fall into depression.

In the 19-32-year-olds in the study, people who brush every week social networking sites most frequently suffer from depression is not how people use social networking sites to the possibility of 2.7 times. In this study of the 1787 United States young people, their daily average 61 minutes with social media, you want to sign in to your account 30 times a week. Appears in one-fourth of the subjects have a tendency to depression.

Focus on media and Health Research Center Director Dr Brian Primack of Pitt leading the research, he explained: "for a long time using social media is very important to find out the explanation of the relation between depression, because this was a cross-sectional study, does not come from the existing results clearly point to the conclusions. 」

"The data is very likely now as those who themselves have depression are increasingly using social media, maybe they feel are not very motivated to take part in more direct social exchanges. 」

However, Primack said there are indeed reasons to explain why frequently use social media more likely to cause depression, an example of which is called "Facebook depression" phenomenon.

"Those who are addicted to social networks may feel that they do not live in an ideal, while others in the Sun out of life on social networks is much more better than your life. 」

"And like many other research topics in the social sciences, according to the study′s conclusion makes sense in both directions. 」

"People should be more concerned about this phenomenon, because it might lead to a potentially vicious circle: have people with depression are more likely to seek emotional support from social media, but such excessive behavior makes them more depressed. 」

The study was funded by the University of Pittsburgh School of medicine for 11 of the most popular social media platforms, which include Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and Google Plus, Instagram, and Snapchat, Reddit, and Tumblr, Pinterest, and Vine as well as LinkedIn. Facebook currently active users has exceeded 1 billion a day, and monthly active users of Twitter have reached 320 million people.

The results are quite disturbing, according to a report released by the World Health Organization in October 2015 shows that depression has become the leading cause of disability in the world the most important factor.

But Primack also said social media itself can become a tool to overcome depression. "We hope that this study can help figure out how to play the role of social media is a powerful tool, use it to the advantage of establishing a link between man and man, not to further exacerbate depression. 」

"We do not recommend that people stop using social media, social media has become a very important part of today′s society, it took many important social functions. 」

"We are doing this study was to let people know about using social media also face some emotional risks, mastered this knowledge allows people in how to use social media as well as on the frequency of use to make better choices. 」

Dr Primack, the study conclusion depicts an overall tendency, does not mean that all people who love social media will suffer from depression, in fact some people get links from social media to establish psychological comfort, reduce their symptoms of depression.
