作为儿童节送给小朋友大朋友的节日礼物，百度动物园把企鹅、熊猫、大象、羊驼、环尾狐猴、长颈鹿等众多热门动物搬上互联网，供民众随时随地观赏。目前，首批动物直播页面（baike.baidu.com/zoo）已正式上线，在此领域百度动物园成为中国首个大型网上直播动物园。
百度动物园上线后，对一些不能外出或者不能到动物园的小朋友或家长来说，为他们创造了在家游览动物园的条件。同样的，在互联网技术的支持下，也让身处偏远山区的儿童及行动不便的人群也能够近距离接触和观赏自己喜欢的动物，同时进一步普及动物知识，呼唤公众保护动物的意识。
据介绍，“百度动物园”主要通过在北京动物园各个动物场馆安装小度i耳目云摄像头，并利用百度云技术实现高清直播。除了“百度动物园”专题网站外，网友还可以通过百度搜索“企鹅”、“大熊猫”等动物关键词，在相关百科词条中观看动物直播画面。
