本报11月13日讯(记者 张斌 通讯员 罗晓果)今年是常德会战70周年。今天上午，海峡两岸各界人士200余人在常德市常德会战阵亡将士纪念碑塔前集会，纪念70年前在会战中英勇献身的民族英烈。
全国政协常委、民革中央副主席郑建邦出席并讲话，省政协副主席、民革省委主委刘晓主祭。本次活动由民革湖南省委与中共常德市委联合举办。
上午9时整，公祭活动开始，主祭人刘晓诵读祭文。
郑建邦在讲话中说，常德会战是抗日战争史上最惨烈的会战之一，不仅是常德的光荣、湖南的光荣，更是中华民族的光荣。祭奠抗日英烈们，就是要牢记历史，以史为鉴。他号召海内外炎黄子孙携手并肩，同心建设华夏伟业，实现中华民族的伟大复兴。

当年参加常德守城战役的老战士、91岁高龄的吴淞老人作为老兵代表讲话，表达了对长眠于此的战友们的深切怀念。
1943年的常德会战，是中国人民抗日战争中的著名重大战役之一，中国军队经过固守、失陷、克复三个阶段，历时30多天，终将日寇击退到原驻地，挫败了其占领常德的阴谋，为抗日战争全面胜利和世界反法西斯战争胜利起到了重大的作用，被称为“东方的斯大林格勒保卫战”。其中，参加常德守城战役的8500多名将士和常德民众，发扬“一寸山河、一寸血肉”的爱国热忱，同4倍于己的攻城日军苦战16昼夜，写下极为壮烈的一笔。
当天还举行了抗战老兵一对一结对援助活动，并开展了学术研讨。
