报道指出，钓鱼台、竹岛，分别有中国大陆、南韩主张主权，这是日本与这两国的关系恶化的原因之一。日本外务省为了向海内外宣传这些岛屿是日本的固有领土，制作影音短片上传网络。
日本外务省在这各约1分半钟的影音短片中分别强调日本拥有钓鱼台、竹岛主权，说明在历史上、第二次世界大战后、《旧金山和约》都确认是日本的领土，内容还有一些当时的照片等。
有关钓鱼台，影音短片介绍说，以前曾有柴鱼片工厂，有将近200名日本人住在岛上。
日本外务省今后还要推出英语、汉语、韩语等的10国语言版本上传网络。
