据悉，硬盘主轴电机的产量无论季度还是年度都有同比上涨。主轴电机产量的提升也预示着机械硬盘市场再次回暖。此前，日本电产认为在2015-2016年间，机械硬盘的出货量降低了10%。

据悉，机械硬盘的需求量回升是托了PC市场需求稳定和高容量近线级硬盘（即把那些并不是经常用到，或者说数据的访问量并不大的数据存放在性能较低的存储设备上。但同时对这些的设备要求是寻址迅速、传输率高）的福。在各项利好的作用下，日本电产认为今年第二季度机械硬盘的出货量依旧会保持上扬姿态，不过2017年全年出货量依然会比去年降低4%。

从希捷、西数和东芝几大硬盘生产商的最新财报来看，2016-2017年间机械硬盘出货量可能会下滑7.2%，比前一年的10%有所好转。

各类细分市场方面，高性能企业级机械硬盘去年出货量下跌11.3%，但近线级硬盘却增长了1.5%，而桌面机械硬盘与笔记本机械硬盘出货量下滑更是分别达到18.6%和19.9%。其中，消费电子硬盘表现最为抢眼，在游戏存储和机顶盒的推动下，其出货量增长20.8%。

三大机械硬盘制造商中，西数依然保持领先，去年其市场份额达41%，希捷紧随其后，为37%，而东芝份额则为22%。东芝份额有所上涨，2015年时其市场份额为16%，据悉，它们从西数和希捷抢来的市场份额主要来自消费电子和笔记本。

业内人士认为，机械硬盘的未来要靠高容量机械硬盘承托，它们将成为数据中心云存储服务的重要一环。在财报中，希捷表示未来18个月内它们将推出14和16TB机械硬盘，而2020年20TB机械硬盘就将诞生。不过，这并非硬盘业的终极目标，从ATSC的路线图可知，3.5英寸100TB硬盘大概在2025年就能面世。因此，机械硬盘与固态硬盘的拉锯战恐怕还会继续打下去。
