Singapore company (SLC) announced on Wednesday a section named "8" passenger lift, use of lightweight composite materials instead of traditional steel, making it the world's first made of composite material lifts. It is reported that "8" using composite materials including carbon fiber-reinforced polymer, glass-fiber-reinforced polymers and bio-derived polymers.

In addition to the advantages of light weight, these materials also has the advantages of high strength and improved corrosion resistance, in aerospace, deep sea exploration and F1 Formula one field is used.

Singapore company (SLC) General Manager Alister Bennett said, is the first time these composite materials used in elevator. 除了具有重量轻的优势外，这些材料还具有高强度和更好的耐腐蚀性等特点，在航空航天、深海探索以及F1方程式赛车领域均有应用。

新加坡电梯公司（SLC）总经理Alister Bennett表示，这些符合材料被用于制作电梯尚属首次。为保证其安全性，公司还曾进行过相关实验，将电梯堆满近1600 kg物品后任其下坠，结果显示该电梯也并未受到太大损伤。

在自身重量上，“8”复合材料载客电梯也比传统的钢材料结构的客梯轻上许多。据称“8”的重量只有150 kg，而具有相同载重量的传统钢材料制成的客梯重量却达到了1500 kg。

至于为何取名为“8”，也是有讲究的。首先，该公司将为电梯零件提供8年的保修期。第二，它的安装速度比传统电梯快8倍。第三，它的最大承载量是8位乘客。
