Washington think-tank Asia maritime transparency initiatives (Asia Maritime Transparency Initiative) said that satellite image taken this month showed that Viet Nam has less than 2500 feet from the runway at the Spratly Islands (760 m) extension to more than 3300 feet (1 km).

The think-tank said that if expansion project continues to expand, the runway eventually will be up to 4000 feet (1.2 km). This means that maritime reconnaissance aircraft, transport planes and fighter jets will be able to use the extension of the runway and landing in the future.

The think tank's report, Viet Nam in recent years in the Spratlys increased soil-filled area of 57 acres (23 hectares).

　　【环球网报道 记者 赵衍龙】新加坡联合早报网11月18日报道称，美国智库说，越南正在南海一个岛屿（编者注：根据原文卫星图应为中国南威岛）扩建跑道。

　　华盛顿智库亚洲海事透明倡议(Asia Maritime Transparency Initiative)说，本月拍摄的卫星视像显示，越南在南沙群岛的跑道已从少于2500英尺(约760公尺)扩建至超过3300英尺(1公里)。

　　该智库说，如果扩建工程持续展开，该跑道最终将长达4000英尺(1.2公里)。这意味着，海事侦察机、运输机和战斗机今后将能利用扩建后的跑道起降。

　　该智库的报告指出，越南近年来在南沙群岛增加的填土面积达57英亩(23公顷)。

　　卫星图显示，越南在南沙群岛跑道已扩建至超过3300英尺(1公里)。
