3D printing technology has brought many benefits and would encourage more innovation. But it's also easy for some unlawful purpose. Using 3D printing technology a very realistic imitation of a fingerprint prosthetic hand, you can use it to fool the fingerprint scanner in the security system. It sounds a bit like a spy movie, but Anil Jain, Professor at Michigan State University is to become a reality.

Professor Jain has been studying a fingerprint scanner security and how to improve them in order to avoid crime. Professor Jain's team created a 3D print made by the fingerprint test models of the hand. Results show that such a lifelike model of fingerprint hand cheated all fingerprint scanning systems.

The team is using a Stratasys Objet350 Connex 3D printer, with ultra high resolution, three-dimensional model can be constructed out of the surface of the finger to ensure finger print fingerprint on every peak and Valley in their appropriate locations.

Jain said: "as with any optical device, fingerprint or hand scanners need to be calibrated, but at present there is no standard way to calibrate them. ”

Test results showed that the security systems developers need to put more effort into the fingerprint scanning systems in the future on the identification of the true and false hand, or towards more security on retinal scanning technology.

测试结果表明，安全系统的开发人员未来需要将更多精力投入指纹扫描系统对真假手的辨别上，或是转向更安全的视网膜扫描技术上。
