采用无人设备送货并非京东首创，在之前亚马逊等电商已经开始测试采用无人设备为偏远地区送货，不过在京东此款无人送货车亮相之后有眼尖网友发现其设计与国外一款机器人非常相似，尤其是上面的天线颇为传神。

下图的这款机器人被称为“盒子机器人”，由Skype创始人Heinla与Friis旗下的Starship公司推出。之所以这么称呼，是因为它的外形像极了一个配有六个轮子的储物盒，它最重可承载20磅（约合9公斤）的货物，最远可达到物流中心方圆1英里（约合1.6公里）多的范围。由于其硬件上配置了一系列摄像头和传感器，能够保障其安全行走在人行道上，在指定时间从物流中心出发，穿越大街小巷，来到顾客家门口完成快递任务。

在配送过程中，所携带的包裹都是被严密封锁，接收者只有通过其智能手机才能打开。Starship表示，这台联网机器人最多可运送两袋食杂货物，能够处理95%的包裹。它的成本比人力快递便宜5-15倍，目前的平均快递费为每趟5-15美元，Starship称未来可以削减至1美元。

当然，对于这种以功能性为主要设计理念的机器人完全不必在外观上过多纠结，从设计上来看两者区分度很大，至于究竟谁更适合运送货物或许只能在京东物流机器人正式启动才能比较。
