　　2016年7月6日，中国外交部长王毅应约同美国国务卿克里通电话，重点就海上问题交换意见。

　　王毅表示，当前中国和美国关系总体保持良好发展势头。双方应进一步聚焦合作、妥处分歧，推进中国和美国新型大国关系建设。

　　王毅指出，所谓的南海仲裁案在程序、法律、证据适用方面牵强附会，漏洞百出。因此，这一明显扩权和越权的仲裁庭根本就没有管辖权，罔顾法律和事实的裁决自然也就没有约束力。中国依法不参与、不接受这一仲裁正是在维护国际法治和规则，维护《联合国海洋法公约》的严肃性和完整性。仲裁庭的这场闹剧该收场了。

　　王毅表示，希望美方恪守在有关领土争议问题上不持立场的承诺，谨言慎行，不采取任何损害中方主权和安全利益的行动。

　　王毅表示，不管菲律宾南海仲裁案结果如何，中国都将坚定维护自身领土主权和正当海洋权益，坚定维护南海地区和平与稳定。中国将继续遵循《联合国宪章》及其所确认的国际法和国际关系基本准则，包括尊重国家主权和领土完整以及和平解决争端原则，坚持与直接有关当事国，在尊重历史事实的基础上，根据国际法，通过谈判协商和平解决有关争端。

　　克里表示，理解中方将就仲裁案表明自己的立场。同时期望各方都能保持克制。美中双方在维护南海和平稳定方面具有共同利益，美方支持各方继续通过外交途径和平解决有关争议。
