事实上，有些时候媒体出于编辑排版以及封面美观等需要，会在照片中进行些许的后期调整，不过对于要求真实性的媒体而言，这个“度”是很难考量的，因为有了轻微的后期PS，用户就有理由认为在其他方面也做了PS，因此这一问题也成为了不少媒体的困扰。在《国家地理》的历史中，也曾因为封面比较明显的PS效果而遭到用户强烈的抗议。

不过，在这次声明中，Susan Goldberg明确表示，目前对《国家地理》中照片的任何改变都是不允许的，也就是不论后期程度的深或浅，都不会采用。《国家地理》将确保使用的照片的真实性，而在接受投稿的时候，《国家地理》会向摄影作者索要RAW文件，如果没有，也会询问作者和照片相关的问题，一旦发现照片有后期修改的痕迹，便不会采用。
