据台湾“中央社”报道，马来西亚的粽子称作ketupat，在东南亚一带有马来西亚人居住的地方，都可以看到这种食物，ketupat在欢庆伊斯兰开斋节的时候，几乎是不可或缺的。

报道称，马来粽可分两种：一种是用棕榈叶包裹的，从叶子空隙放入事先用椰浆煮过的半熟米，另一种是用椰叶扎成，只用白米制成，主要用来配食沙爹四角形粽子。

越南粽子（Bánh chưng）呈方形，长得像块大饼，是越南的春节食品之一。做法是将糯米浸泡后加肥猪肉、绿豆和黑胡椒作馅，以柊叶包裹、蒸熟，蘸鱼露食用。
