英国牛津大学出版社旗下的《牛津英语词典》最近宣布了其更新状况，2016年3月，《牛津英语词典》的更新版本收录了500个新单词及短语，其中有13个为“港式英语”。例如叉烧（char siu）及饮茶（yum cha）等，这些词汇在词典中多以粤语拼音显示，可以说是“港味”十足。

13个港式英语也并非全为“土著”，有一部分是外来词，如大排档（dai pai dong）、街坊（kaifong）；也有一些为香港当地独有的说法，以英语词汇组成，如休憩处（sitting-out area）、夹心阶层（sandwich class）等。

《香港英语词典：来自芬芳之港的词汇》作者之一卡明斯表示，香港这座城市汇聚东西文化，不同背景的人在交流中碰撞出新的火花，许多新词汇由此而来。
