　　新华网西安1月10日电 (记者冯国)中国古代史上代商而起的周人曾以分封制开创了“大一统”局面，但其最重要的发祥地——陕西周原遗址却一直没有确认城墙之类的王都标志物。2013年，考古学家经过全方位考古调查发现了多处城墙遗存，进而确认在周原遗址首次发现了西周晚期的城。

　　上世纪二、三十年代，对商朝遗址——殷墟开展考古工作的同时，中国学者也开始寻找代商而起的周朝遗址，其中尤以上世纪四十年代考古学家石璋如首次对陕西周原遗址进行考古调查为著，可谓开周原考古之先河。70多年来，周原不仅积累了丰富的考古资料，而且出土大量西周青铜器，被誉为“青铜器之乡”。

　　陕西省考古研究院业务办主任种建荣说，按照“聚落结构研究”的理念，陕西省考古研究院在2013年与北京大学考古文博学院、宝鸡周原博物馆联合组成周原考古队，以“全方位调查、准确定位”为思路，在梳理以往数据与成果基础上，采取踏查、勘探、航拍、寻访等方式，对周原遗址进行详细勘测。

　　种建荣说，考古队对既往发现进行重新定位，基本上搞清了遗址不同时期古文化遗存的分布状况。尤其重要的是，考古队首次确认发现了西周时期的城。这个城东西宽约1500米，南北宽600多米。它最早的年代不会早过西周晚期。同时，在这个城里发现了10多处大型的夯土建筑，这应与城的贵族或主人存在着某种关系。

　　周原遗址一直存在着有无王城的争议，新确认的城是否是“王城”呢？专家认为，这个城的性质究竟是什么、它的结构如何，以及城里和城外是什么样的关系等问题，需要进一步的考古发掘。

　　参与考古调查的北京大学教授雷兴山说，考古专家曾发现过这座周城的南北城墙的部分段落，因无法闭合只能称为大型夯土墙。幸运的是，在2013年的考古调查中不仅发现南北城墙的部分段落，还发现了城墙的西北角和东城墙外的壕沟，从而确认先前的大型夯土墙为城墙，实现了周原考古史上首次确认周城的重要发现。

　　考古队2013年在周原遗址考古调查的总面积约50平方公里，调查断坎600条，记录遗存采集点近3000个，抽样勘探面积近10万平方米，获得了丰富的商周时期聚落布局资料。
