不过，Gmail官方博客强调，用户无需担心，因为这一功能并不是强制性的。不喜欢的用户可以在Gmail的设置中进行权限设定。比如，用户可以打开Gmail设置中的“Email via Google+”（通过Google +发送邮件）选项，禁止Google +用户向你发送邮件（见下图）。对于隐私人士可能提出的反对，谷歌官方特别表示，一则这一服务是自愿选择的，用户完全可以禁止。二则，即使用户缺省情况下允许这一功能，只要用户不回复来自Google +上的陌生人邮件，那么邮箱地址就不会被发送人获知。三则，谷歌承诺，所有来自Google +的陌生人邮件（当然，如果发送人在你的圈子中，则不属于陌生人），都不会出现在“重要”邮件分类中。相反，它们会自动被Gmail默认为社交性质的信息而放置到“社交”分类中。

很显然，谷歌此举是为了借助Gmail的强大用户资源来进一步推广其暂时还并不成功的社交平台Google +。自从推出以来，谷歌几乎倾尽自己所有的其他服务资源，来帮助Google +发展壮大。为了能够挑战Facebook、获得更多用户的个性化社交数据、让用户长久的留在谷歌打造的“一体化”平台之上，即使Google +一直表现平庸，甚至被称为社交荒漠、即使招致隐私人士的普遍不满，谷歌仍在坚定不移地利用自己先用的用户、服务优势，将Google +与之融合。

作为一家以数据、算法为基础、以服务为根本、以广告为生存之策的互联网科技公司，谷歌努力获取用户社交资源本来无可厚非，但是诸如上述这种“牵强融合”并可能导致用户担忧、困扰的行为，还真是让我感到有些“丧失节操”。好在谷歌有着基本的互联网从业者道德底线，它所有的服务一方面可能会让隐私人士感到不安，但更主要的是完善用户体验。毕竟谷歌还不像那些可恶的流氓软件服务商，在我们不知情的情况下就“强奸绑架”我们这些用户。
