　　“粤东西北振兴为广东万亿美元经济体贡献了腾挪空间和持续后劲。”广东省政府发展研究中心主任汪一洋说。

　　广东的珠三角是全球制造业重镇，但其周边的粤东西北12市长期处于欠发达状态，如作为整体，人均GDP要排在全国倒数第4位。

　　2013年，广东省在“产业、劳动力双转移”战略基础上，强力推进粤东西北地区振兴，提出以交通建设外通内连、产业园区扩能增效和中心城区扩容提质为抓手，推动各市人均生产总值在2020年前达到或超过全国平均水平，与全国同步全面建成小康社会。

　　在广东的粤东西北2013会战中，有7条高速项目建成通车，11个城市新区规划获批，粤西城市阳江当年人均生产总值在广东欠发达地区中率先超过全国平均水平，提前达到发展要求。由于粤东西北地区规模以上工业增加值、固定资产投资等指标均高于全省和珠三角增速，预计全年整体GDP增长10.5%，比全省高2个百分点。

　　粤东西北的崛起为珠三角拓展了经济腹地，通过“腾笼换鸟”获得空间资源的珠三角后劲更足。广东省统计局称，由于珠三角转型升级加快，广东产业结构近期有望从工业主导的“二、三、一”格局，调整为服务业主导的“三、二、一”格局。
