HGST，即原日立环球存储公司，后被美国西部存储公司收购，近期迎来20年来最大的人员裁减，其新加坡厂裁员530人，据HGST官方说明，裁减人员的原因是人事和经营成本的压力增大。

HGST新加坡厂主要负责生产高端硬盘，这次裁减人员后，不久将其「Cobra E」制造设备移往泰国厂房。

这次裁减的员工多数为制造经理，其中一半为新加坡人，目前HGST新加坡厂中仍有1,40位员工，大部分为工程师和行政员工。

HGST表示此次裁员是为了将新加坡厂从原来的大规模生产设施，重新定位为管理泰国和中国工厂的工程中心。

HGST也表示其余同行竞争者，如Seagate，即美国希捷公司，都已将制造工厂移出新加坡。

HGST表示员工会收到与产业标准相符的补偿金，而且也将延长医疗保险到2014年3月，另外也将再支付工会成员会费三个月，直到2014年3月为止。
