淘宝发布《淘宝村研究微报告2.0》版，数据显示，截止到2013年11月30日，淘宝网（含天猫）上正常经营的注册地在农村（含县）的网店比2012年年底增长了24.9%，其中注册地在村镇级网店比2012年年底增长76.3%。

该报告指出，淘宝村正在成为改变中国农村未来的新兴力量。截止到2013年年底，国内已经发现的淘宝村数量增加到20个（2013年年中统计数量为14个）带来直接就业6万人，并且带来了物流快递、包装等服务业的大量间接就业。从全球范围来看，中国淘宝村是独一无二的经济现象。

“淘宝村”指的是网商数量达到当地家庭户数的10%以上，且电子商务交易规模达到1000万元以上。这些农村网商以淘宝为主要交易平台，形成规模效应和协同效应。

截止到2013年12月，全国已发现各种类型的淘宝村20个，遍及河北、山东、江苏、江西、浙江、福建、广东等7个省，涉及产品包括家居、服装、箱包、农产品、小商品、户外用品等多个品类。义乌市江东街道电子商务协会会长刘文高表示，青岩刘村2000多家网店今年销售总额已经突破20亿元。

根据CNNIC统计，截至2013年6月底，我国网民规模达到5.91亿，较2012年底增加2656万人，新增网民中农村网民占到54.4%。我国农村网民规模达到1.65亿，占网民总体比例为27.9%，比2012年增加约908万人。
