人大新闻网上一则消息显示，2012年7月18日，在全国就业创业工作表彰大会上，蔡荣生获评“全国就业先进工作者”，作为教育部评选的5名直属高校获奖者之一，到会接受表彰。
在人大官网上，最近一次和蔡荣生有关的新闻是在10月12日，以蔡荣生为首的科研小组，曾凭借《完善高校自主选拔录取制度的探索与实践》的科研成果，荣获第七届北京市高等教育教学成果二等奖。
记者在某知名论文网站上检索到，蔡荣生曾发表过多篇论文，内容从信息安全、劳动力到文化产业以及高校专业建设方面，涉及多个方面。

去年11月19日，蔡荣生在人大苏州校区讲话时曾提到，毕业生在今后的工作中，始终争做“国民表率，社会栋梁”，从而回报母校、回报祖国。
据一名当时在场听过蔡荣生做报告的学生回忆，蔡荣生留着平头，给她的印象是“看起来很干练，讲话也有条理，有一种能震住人的气场。”
一位人民大学的学生称，曾到招生就业处给蔡送过两次材料，说话不多，但看上去“很霸气”。
昨日，人民大学一位不愿具名的老师说，上周二还在学校就业指导中心见到过蔡荣生。听闻蔡“很给自己人办事”。出事后，将自己的高级定制手机换做普通手机。

或在自主招生上“出事”
2003年，教育部正式启动自主选拔录取改革试点，也就是后来为人们所熟知的自主招生，首批22所高校中就包括人大，目前人大实行自主招生已经10年，并开展针对“寒门学子”的“圆梦计划”，以及与北大“校长实名推荐制”类似的“校长直通车计划”。
昨日，人大现任招生就业处处长王鹏证实，针对明年应届高中毕业生的“圆梦计划”及“校长直通车计划”具体细则仍在制定，尚未公布。
昨日，一名要求匿名的教育部部属高校招生系统教师分析，蔡极可能在高考招生，尤其是自主招生方面“出事”，因为人大自主招生标准的学生稍多，存在较强的可替代性，受社会关注程度又不及北大、清华那么高，才有可能给招生负责人在决定录取哪些考生时，留下寻租空间。
但截至发稿时，中国人民大学官方并未正式，蔡荣生因自主招生问题被调查。
