　　第一个故事是：100年前，时任芝加哥大学校长贾德森等四人赴中国考察，回国后写成题为“中国医学”的报告，并建议在中国建立一所医科大学，最终促成了北京协和医学院成立。该院如今已成为中国最好的医学院之一，在协和医院的档案馆里，至今保存着这份报告。

　　第二个故事是：100多年前，一个叫丁龙的华工，在一个叫贺拉斯的美国人家中当仆人。当丁龙退休时，贺拉斯为了感谢他几十年的真诚付出，表示愿意尽其所能满足他的愿望。出人意料的是，丁龙唯一的请求就是把他一生积攒的1.2万美元，由贺拉斯出面捐给美国著名大学建一个汉学系，让更多的美国人了解他的祖国和人民。贺拉斯深为感动，几乎倾其家产，与丁龙共同捐资建立了至今享誉世界的哥伦比亚大学东亚系。
