负责运营Skype中国业务的TOM在线今天在其Skype页面上发布公告，称将于11月24日把Skype业务交还给微软运营。公告中，TOM在线还表示，2004年接管Skype以来，TOM-Skype用户已经突破1亿。
有媒体报道称，TOM在线从去年开始对涉及Skype业务的部门进行裁员，技术人员已经基本走光。而Skype在国内的相关业务经营得也并不理想：用户增长速度放缓，同时Skype电话卡的销量也不是很好。
当初进入中国市场时，为了避开政策限制，Skype决定采用合资公司的方式运营。2004年，Skype和TOM在线成立合资公司，TOM在线控股51%，Skype控股49%。双方共同负责Skype在中国的业务。
2011年5月，微软宣布以85亿美元收购Skype。但因为中国业务的特殊性，Skype中国依旧由TOM在线运营。去年年底，微软称未来Skype将逐步替代MSN。今年3月，几乎所有国家的MSN业务都被Skype整合，中国是唯一一个同时保留MSN和Skype的国家。
这次收回Skype在华业务，微软将解决积蓄多年的难题。未来可以预见，在其它国家上演的MSN整合动作也将在中国出现。剩下的问题是，业务整合后如何留住原有的MSN用户？以及如何将他们顺利地迁移到Skype？对微软来说，这是下一个挑战。
