China News Agency, Jinan, October 23 (Zhang Wei) held in Jinan, Shandong province, China tea Expo 2013, 23rd, said Chen Zong-Mao, academician of Chinese Academy of engineering, Chinese tea quality safety problems 80% due to pesticide residues exceeding.

Chen Zong-Mao revealed at the Forum, Chinese tea quality safety problems on pesticide residues in 80%. Chen Zong-Mao said that can cause not only chronic toxicity of pesticide residue in tea, can also cause acute poisoning, particularly more dangerous to children.

Chen Zong-Mao said, allowing pesticide residues in tea standard (MRL) every 20 years was reduced by 1 order of magnitude (10 times). Although standards are always improving, pesticide residues of tea leaves, however, has declined significantly, Chen Zong-Mao said, China's tea exports, because of problems found at the pesticide residues exceeding the percentage has dropped from 82% in the 80 's of the last century to the current 5% or so.

Chen Zong-Mao said that China's tea production volume is not high, but the acreage is growing too fast, leading to higher total production total consumption (domestic consumption and exports).
