　　新华社纽约5月21日电美国哥伦比亚大学日前在纽约举行的2016届毕业典礼上，授予全国人民代表大会常务委员会副委员长、中国科学院院士陈竺和联合国秘书长潘基文等7位著名学者和社会活动家荣誉博士学位。

　　哥伦比亚大学校长博林格在宣读授予陈竺荣誉科学博士学位的决定时说，作为世界白血病转化研究的领军人物，陈竺在急性早幼粒细胞白血病一项颠覆性疗法的开发过程中起到了关键性作用，使这一曾经致命的疾病能够被治愈。

　　博林格说，在担任中国卫生部长期间，陈竺为13亿人享有更健全的医疗体制作出重要贡献，让更多的人得到了医疗保险，并成功应对了许多公共卫生重大挑战。

　　哥伦比亚大学还授予潘基文荣誉法学博士学位，肯定其在领导联合国维护世界和平、应对气候变化和联合国内部改革等方面作出的努力。(完)
