　　中新网台州5月1日电(记者 何蒋勇 通讯员 方华)1日早上9时19分，浙江省台州市临海消防大队接到报警，称临海市东塍镇东溪单村村口一座名为“水阁堂”寺院内，一株有着630年树龄的香樟树起火。接警后，当地消防部门出动12名消防官兵迅速前往现场灭火。

　　消防官兵到达现场后，只见这棵直径约2米的老樟树被浓浓的黑烟笼罩着。由于树龄达630年，老樟树树干己经中空，而起火的位置，正是中空的树干内部。浓浓的黑烟从树干上五、六个树洞冒出来，还不时有火苗窜出。村级消防队队员及众多村民正围着老樟树，用灭火器和消防水带灭火。

　　此时，在消防现场指挥员指挥下，消防官兵兵分二路，利用梯子上到树干上的两个树洞边，用水枪从树洞洞口往里烧水，水柱将从窜出的火苗压了下去，黑烟也随之减少。但是由于老樟树树干内部情况十分复杂，树干中空蜿蜒，尽管消防官兵全力向树洞内浇水，火还是不能被完全浇灭。

　　老樟树主枝的断裂处出现一个焦黑的树洞，正住外冒着浓烟。村里调来了大型吊车，在指挥员指挥下，消防官兵站在吊车的吊篮内升到树洞上方，从焦黑的树洞往里不断浇水，直到下午3时左右才将火彻底浇灭。

　　据现场的一名老大爷说，这座寺庙是临海市重点文物保护单位。小时候，庙里的戏台子上演戏，他就和其他孩子们一道，爬到老樟树上看戏。村里人对老樟树的感情都非常深。老樟树太老了，里面都空了，树根处更是有无数的空洞。村民为了保护它，用水泥给老樟树做了个坛子，并盖上了厚厚的泥土，将老樟树根部的洞都埋了起来。

　　据农林局的一名工作人员称，虽然遭遇了此次大火，但因为樟树的外围树皮完好，而树用来运输水份养料的主要是树表层的木质部和韧皮部，所以应该还能存活。当问及老樟树是否可能自燃，这位工作人员指出，樟树会分泌出一种樟树油，老樟树被虫蛀后产生树洞，空气在树洞里流动快，氧气多，引起樟树油挥发、氧化，加上天气干燥、气温较高，极易引起自燃。但目前的天气并不算炎热，且前几天下过雨，树干也并不十分干燥，所以这棵树自燃的可能性并不大。
